At Sunshine Furniture, we strive to offer a product that has the ability to better people’s lives. An innovative design that can help make a house a home for those who may otherwise feel confined in a world of medical equipment and devices constructed for function before form.
Our customers include people from a range of different age groups, abilities, needs, and personal styles. All of them have the right and privilege to enjoy their surroundings even as they are aided by them. That’s where the Tuff Koda easier chair comes in. Whatever brings you into your wheelchair, we want to help you find freedom outside of it. We want you to be able to enjoy the comfort of your own home.
For more information on the most common disabilities that cause people to rely on wheelchairs, see below.
Quadriplegia/Paraplegia
Quadriplegia is the full or partial paralysis of all four limbs. Paraplegia
is the same condition, affecting only the legs. There are varying degrees
of each, depending on the lesion, or specific location on the spine that
has sustained an injury. The higher up the spinal damage is, the more widespread
the resulting nerve damage will be. Generally speaking, any area of the
body below the injury will be negatively affected. Although this is a debilitating
experience in the physical sense, many people have been able to live long
and fulfilling lives because of, or in spite of, the disability.
Spina Bifida
Spina Bifida is a birth defect that affects the spine and the related nerves.
It is believed to be partially preventable by consuming appropriate vitamins
and nutrients during pregnancy, especially Folic Acid. When a child is born
with Spina Bifida, it means that a portion of his spine has not fused together
as a complete tube, and therefore has left the spinal cord itself exposed.
This occurs to varying degrees, some having little or no effect after birth.
However, in the event of severe Spina Bifida portions of the body can be
paralyzed, similar to Paraplegia, and sometimes even the brain can be affected
due to a faulty connection with the spine. Spina Bifida can often be diagnosed
before birth, and in rare cases operated on to prevent further damage.
